Lower Division Art Projects

Here are just a few examples of what we do
in the
LOWER SCHOOL!!!
4th Grade Matisse Cut Outs
Drawing with scissors??? Yes, it's possible. Just ask our 4th graders about the art of Henri Matisse and they'll tell you it's not that difficult to accomplish. They learn about creating abstract shapes, and geometric shapes in addition to thinking of an image and imagining a line to cut along.

5th Grade and Van Gogh
What better way to learn about one of the most famous paintings in the world, than to do your own rendition of it on a miniature canvas? Students watch a movie about the life and times of Vincent Van Gogh, and engage in critical thinking and art criticism about his most famous painting 'Starry Night'.

6th Grade Egyptian Sarcohagus
As part of an interdisciplinary lesson, the students in grade 6 learn about the various types of art from all over the world. In this particular lesson, they learn how to create an Egyptian Sarcophagus complete with heiroglyphics and jeweled adornments.

Kindergarten and
Jackson Pollack
As young as 5 years old, my students are introduced to art history. They learn about the three primary colors and I integrate it with the art of Jackson Pollack. Using yarn and tempera paints, the students create a modern art painting in the style of Jackson Pollack.
